Luckenbooth brooches originated in 16th century Edinburgh. They were given as love tokens or lucky charms for warding off witches, and sold in the locked or ‘lucken’- booths near St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile.
9ct gold brooch only has pearls set in. No pearls on silver brooch.
